USA’s Morgan Hamm Withdraws

Breaking news our of Beijing this morning. Gymnast Morgan Hamm has withdrawl from the 2008 summer games with an ankle injury. It’s upsetting news, especially following his brother Paul’s withdrawl just 10 days ago, also due to injuries. Alexander Artemev will take Morgan’s spot on the mens gymnastics team.

Events for Thursday August 7th

Ahead of the Beijing opening ceremonies there will be Mens soccer preliminaries played on Thursday. (The women’s took place on Wednesday)

Highlighted games include Japan vs the United States and Brazil vs Belgium. Mens results to come tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Olympic Events Start Today

Two days ahead of the official Olympic Opening Ceremonies competition has already begun. Women’s soccer started on Wed the 6th with the following matches and results:

Tyson Gay Injured, Could Miss Olympics

Track star Tyson Gay took a spill while qualifying for the 200-metres and could miss the Beijing Olympics all together. Gay suffered a severe hamstring cramp and came tumbling to the ground during Saturday’s qualifying heat in Eugene, Oregon.

Earlier in the week Gay had recorded the fastest time on history running the 100 meters in 9.68 seconds. An MRI will be performed to see if he can still make the trip to Beijing.

Gary Hall’s Fourth Place Finish Ends His Reign

Famed swimmer Gary Hall will not be going Beijing. In an astonishing upset Hall finished fourth in the 50m freestyle in Omaha. Having already won five gold medals in three previous games Hall had the opportunity to become the first swimmer to win the same event in three different Olympic games. Garrett Weber-Gale finished the 50 in a record time of 21.47 seconds.
